ROCKINGHAM — Two Richmond County people are facing felony charges, accused of stealing a utility trailer and pawning another.

According to warrants, 35-year-old Celia Elizabeth Martin and 29-year-old Jacob Wade Martin, of Jewell Lane, stole a pull-behind trailer belonging to the East Rockingham Fire Department on New Year’s Day.

The following day, the couple allegedly sold a stolen 6x10 utility trailer — belonging to someone else — to Carolina Jewelry and Pawn for $400.

Investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office also allege in warrants that the two were in possession of a 1995 Jeep Cherokee, stolen from the same owner of the pawned trailer.

They were arrested Jan. 3 and both charged with one felony count each of larceny, obtaining property by false pretenses, receiving stolen goods or property, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Both were booked into the Richmond County Jail where they remained Wednesday, each under a $25,000 secured bond. They are scheduled to appear in court Jan. 16.

Online court records show both have pending traffic charges.

Celia Martin has a Jan. 30 court date for a special ID fraud violation. Jacob Martin is set to appear the same day, cited for driving with a revoked license and on a misdemeanor charge of possession of stolen goods or property.

Neither has any prior convictions in the state, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
