ROCKINGHAM – Children were able to explore the possibilities of a career Saturday, November 4, while enjoying themselves at the same time.

Discovery Place Kids hosted their third annual “I CAN Be Anything” event, which was geared towards encouraging children’s interest in a future profession.

The parking lot was blocked off while the local fire department, police department, Duke Progress Energy, Pee Dee Electric, and the NC Forestry Service along with Smokey the Bear set up outside to explain each profession and draw the interest of the children. Fat Cat also showed up to entertain all those who attended.

The event began at 10 a.m. and lasted until 1 p.m., which tickets were half price.

“We had a really good turnout,” said Director Katie Rohleder. “There were over 100 people by noon, which was great!”

The children were also able to enjoy the activities inside Discovery Place, as well as attend a few other booths that were set up, which included Strayhorn Dentistry and the Employee’s State Credit Union. There were also giveaways for the children.

Discovery Place Kids is open Tuesday through Sunday, with hours extended until 8 p.m. on Tuesdays to accommodate parents who work late. Rohleder encourages people to come by and enjoy all the activities that are offered. It is also a great place for a field trip or a fun-filled birthday party.
