DOBBINS HEIGHTS — A food truck that has recently been making the rounds in Richmond County will be providing free meals and information regarding COVID-19 later this month.

Town officials recently approved a partnership with the Seafoodie Food Truck and the Richmond County Health Department to host the event starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 26 at Dobbins Heights Community Center, according to a press release.

“Anything that will benefit the community, I’m all in,” said Dobbins Heights Mayor Antonio Blue.

Seafoodie, which specializes in Maryland-style crab cakes and fried fish, will provide 300 free meals  and masks to event attendees on a first come, first served basis, according to a press release.

“I have to do something to help educate and reiterate the dangers of COVID-19,” said Seafoodie owner Kendale Robinson of Durham. “We have to be the change we want to see.”

In addition, Doc Hill’s Family Care Home in Hamlet and nonprofit Conscious Communities are each donating 750 face masks, with Doc Hill’s also donating 300 bags of non-perishable food items, according to the release. Jacqueline Prescott of Human is also donating hand sanitizer.

Nurses from the Health Department will be at the event to answer COVID-related questions and information packets will be provided.

Event attendees are encouraged to follow social distancing guidelines and are asked to remain in their vehicles and drive through the park to receive their plates and information.
