Jeep reported stolen in Hamlet found crashed in Dobbins Heights

HAMLET — Police say a vehicle reported stolen over the weekend was found crashed not far away.

According to the Hamlet Police Department, the owner of a 2019 Jeep Cherokee reported around 8 p.m. Saturday evening that the SUV had been stolen.

The owner reportedly still had a key to the vehicle and told officers that it was still running.

The Jeep was entered into a law enforcement database and discovered a short time later by a trooper with the N.C. State Highway Patrol, police say.

The vehicle had crashed into a tree on Earle Franklin Drive in Dobbins Heights, but there was no driver at the scene, according to police.

The case is still under investigation.
