N.C. Zoo to celebrate World Gorilla Day

The Zoo is partnering with institutions across the globe as part of Gorillas on the Line…Answer the Call, a cell phone recycling initiative.

ASHEBORO — The North Carolina Zoo will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Valerie H. Schindler Wildlife Rehabilitation Center on Friday, Aug. 20, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Zoo's Discovery Zone Amphitheater. The event is free with Zoo admission.

ASHEBORO — The North Carolina Zoo is grieving the loss of Tommo, a beloved grizzly bear who lived at the Zoo for 26 years. The 31-year-old bear's quality of life quickly declined to the point that the Zoo's staff made the difficult decision to euthanize him this week.

ASHEBORO — The North Carolina Zoo announces the birth of three litters of critically endangered American red wolves as part of its red wolf breeding program. The litters comprising 12 pups were born during three days from April 28 to April 30. All pups and their mothers are healthy and doing well. This is the first time in the Zoo’s breeding program that three litters were born in one spring.
