PEMBROKE — Former UNC Pembroke professor James Ebert, a staple in the biology department who impacted the lives of countless students during his tenure that spanned nearly five decades, died recently at the age of 96.

PEMBROKE — After earning a biology degree at UNCP in 2016, Linda Council decided to place her medical school plans on hold. To prepare for a career as a doctor, she has spent the last four years gaining real-world experience as a first responder.

PEMBROKE — A $100,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation will allow the Lumber River Conservancy and its partners in the UNC Pembroke biology department to study the effects of agricultural runoff, drought, and recent hurricanes on the river’s overall health. The results will help the LRC, regulatory agencies and members of the community make decisions to protect the river and improve its water quality.
