ROCKINGHAM — A man has been taken to a hospital after a brief standoff with law enforcement Thursday afternoon in the Richmond Park neighborhood.

According to the Rockingham Police Department, the suspect — who has not been named — is a veteran who has been having issues and family members had filed for his involuntary commitment.

When officers went to his home, the man reportedly refused to come to the door.

The Rockingham Police Department called out its SWAT unit and requested assistance from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, according to police.

No shots were fired by the suspect or law enforcement, however, police say a flash bang was detonated in the yard and tear gas was used.
