ROCKINGHAM — Dollar General has opened its latest location in Richmond County.
The retail chain announced Tuesday that its store on Greene Street, near the intersection of U.S. 220 in downtown Rockingham is ready for business.
According to a press release, the store is expected to employ six-10 people.
This is the second Dollar General to open in Richmond County this year. Another opened this summer at the intersection of N.C. 177 and Airport Road, just north of Hamlet.
Dollar General now has four locations in the Rockingham area (two on U.S. 1 and one on U.S. 74 Bus. in addition to the one on Greene Street), two in the Hamlet area (both on N.C. 177) and one in Ellerbe.
Former Norman mayor Kenneth Broadway tried for years to lure the retail outlet to build a store in the county’s northernmost municipality, but to no avail.
According to a press release, 75% of Americans live within five miles of a Dollar General.
