ROCKINGHAM – A golf tournament will be held to support Mount Olive Baptist Church’s mission trip to Nicaragua on April 28 at Scotch Meadows Country Club in Laurinburg.

Greens fees are $40/person. The tournament format is four player best ball. Tee off is at 9:00 a.m. and lunch will be provided as teams complete their rounds. Door prizes will be given out, along with prizes for the longest drive and closest to the pin. The winning team will receive their entry fee back. All proceeds will help fund the mission trip to Nicaragua planned for June 22-29.

Mount Olive Youth Pastor C.J. Smith, who will be leading the mission group, said the mission team will be partnering with a ministry called Praying Pelican Missions. Praying Pelican Missions partners teams alongside local ministries to encourage and assist them in serving their communities during their mission trip. The Mount Olive team will have the opportunity to build lasting relationships with the local churches by ministering beside them throughout the week.

Smith said there will be six student leaders and three adults making the trip to Nicaragua, stating, “We feel that by exposing our student leaders to this type of mission in high school, it will help them see the importance of missions as a lifestyle.” He said, “We will be leading sports camps, digging wells, and partnering with the local church in Nicaragua.”

Kaitlyn Skippers, a junior at Richmond Senior High School, organizes all of the student events for Mount Olive. She said that, since the group received a list of six possible locations from which to choose, they knew the only thing they could do was pray. “We have six different student leaders which makes it easy to have different opinions; we knew that God would clearly lay one place on our hearts if we all prayed about it. All of us met a few weeks later and had the same answer, Nicaragua!”

Skippers stated, “While on the mission trip, we will be doing many different activities to help the community, but our main goal is to be the salt and light of the world, sharing the love of God with lost people, just as he has commanded us to do!” She added, “We would love for anyone and everyone to come support us and help make this mission trip possible!”
