“CLASSROOM CREDITS” WITH JEREMIAH RITTER

Starting the new semester with a 4.17 weighted grade point average, Ritter is a workhorse in the classroom much like he is on the baseball field.

Taking advantage of Richmond Senior High School’s dual-enrollment program, Ritter is knocking out college level courses while also completing his high school diploma.

Last semester, Ritter passed all four of his classes and earned an A in Financial Planning II Honors and a B in AP United States Government and Politics.

This spring, Ritter is taking four courses. He’s in Spanish 112 at RichmondCC and is enrolled in Chemistry Honors, English III Honors and Weight Training Honors at the high school.

“DUSTING UP THE DIAMOND”  WITH JEREMIAH RITTER

The Raiders traveled to West Cabarrus High School last Tuesday and erased an early deficit to win 9-6.

Ritter, who started the game in center field, relieved starting pitcher James Eason in the bottom of the fourth inning. He inherited a 3-1 deficit, but would help himself and the team on the mound and at the plate.

Ritter struck out the side in the home half of the fourth, three of his six Ks, but an error and two singles allowed the Wolverines to take a 4-1 lead.

Richmond got two runs back early in the top of the fifth inning and Ritter approached the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. On the second offering from Andre Vaughn, Ritter barreled up a 3-RBI double to left field to give Richmond a 6-3 lead.

He preserved the lead in the bottom half, giving up a leadoff walk but stranding the runner. Ritter used a flyout and two punchouts in the next three at-bats to end the frame.

The Raiders added three insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Ritter recorded his final strikeout in the next half inning, but two walks ended his night.

At the dish, Ritter went 1-for-3 with a double, a base on balls and a team-high three RBI. His pitching line was 2.1 innings, three runs (two earned) on two hits and three walks.

With his 3-RBI performance, Ritter is tied for third with Cooper Moss (Southern Lee High School) in the Sandhills Athletic Conference in the early going.

The Raiders (1-0) will play three games this week, starting with their home opener Tuesday against Southern Lee (1-2). First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
