Remaining suspect in Sandhills crime spree turns himself in

LAURNINBURG — The last of the six men accused of a Sandhills crime spree has been apprehended.

Jalen Quick, 18, of Gibson, turned himself in to the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, according to a Facebook post from the agency’s Criminal Investigative Unit.

Investigators say Quick was served with 81 felony warrants totaling 173 felony criminal charges in four counties.

He was booked into the Scotland County Jail under an $850,000 secured bond and had his first court appearance Thursday.

Quick and his alleged cohorts — Bobby Pearson Jr., Majuani Jackson, Devine Revels, Jakob Slade and Timonte Purvis — are accused of being responsible for a high number of car break-ins, vehicle thefts and robberies in Scotland, Richmond, Cumberland and Moore counties. At least 31 incidents were in Scotland County alone.

Purvis was arrested Feb. 25 by agents with the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, deputies with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Pembroke Police Department, according to a Facebook post from the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Unit.

Investigators say Purvis, 21, of Bennettsville, South Carolina, was taken to Fayetteville and served with multiple warrants.

Prior to his arrest, Purvis was out on bond from pending charges from the Bennettsville Police Department and has warrants from the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office for second-degree burglary and failure to stop for blue lights.

Investigators arrested three of the suspects — Pearson, Revels and Jackson — in Laurinburg on Feb. 20. The youngest of the group, 17-year-old Jakob Slade, was arrested the following day.

The Richmond Observer is still working to get all of the charges from Richmond County.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
