HAMLET — While working as a cashier at a convenience store, Micheal Connor remembers many nights taking every spare moment to open his college textbook and study a calculus problem. Those days are long gone but not forgotten for Connor, who is a field engineer for Southeastern Connections, a subcontractor for Piedmont Natural Gas.

HAMLET — Rosaura De Watson of Bennettsville, South Carolina, is now a proud American citizen, something she couldn’t honestly say a few weeks ago. On Sept. 16, De Watson was granted U.S. citizenship after passing the required exams and successfully completing the interview process with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Service Thread to receive customized training for new line of textile machines
HAMLET — Richmond Community College has secured $20,000 in customized training for textile manufacturer Service Thread. A large portion of that will cover the cost of training employees on a new line of textile machines that will provide a greater level of flexibility and winding quality for coarse technical yarns.

Richmond Community College to hold special scholarship ceremony in memory of ‘The Rev.’
HAMLET — Richmond Community College will hold a special ceremony Oct. 23 for the establishment of the Rev Scholarship in memory of the late Rev. Ricky Jacobs, who was the former chaplain for Richmond County Raiders sports teams.

HAMLET — The College Innovation Network (Monday) announced the second cohort of higher education institutions that have joined the growing network: Richmond Community College (North Carolina), Arizona Western College, Bennett College (North Carolina), Capella University (Minnesota), Cuyahoga Community College (Ohio), Northern Virginia Community College, and Rivet School (California).
