ROCKINGHAM — A Raleigh area car dealership company will be the title sponsor for the upcoming Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour race at Rockingham Speedway.

Race promoters Charlie Hansen and Mike Stodder announced Wednesday that LeithCars.com will be the lead sponsor for the Race the Rock 125 on Nov. 6.

“The Leith Automotive family has a wonderful history of supporting automobile racing at many different levels,” Stodder said in a press release. “We couldn’t be happier to partner with them for this event. This race at Rockingham is historic, as it will be the first race on the high banks since 2013.”

That event was the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race in April 2013.

“Rockingham Speedway is such a storied, hallowed track,” said Mark Arsen, with LeithCars.com. “When you walk through the garages, look out through the suites across from pit row, or climb up the steep 25-degree banking in the turns, you can definitely hear the echoes of NASCAR history, it really will raise the hair on your arms. That’s why it’s so exciting to know that stock car racing will be returning to The Rock after such a long absence.”

The CARS Tour race, originally slated for March 6, was announced last November.

“After several tire tests that didn’t meet the standards needed for a competitive race, Hoosier went back to the drawing board and developed a new tire to tackle the weathered Rockingham surface,” Stodder said. “After a successful CARS Tour tire test in May, we’re excited to move forward with the planning of the event and with the launch of the new website, www.racetherock.com.”

Tickets went on sale Wednesday at that site.

In addition to a 100-lap late-model race, the event will also feature a 25-lap Carolina Mini-Stock competition.

The CARS Tour is just part of Rockingham Speedway’s revival in 2021.

Preparations are currently underway for this weekend’s Monster Truckz Mayhem Tour, which is set to feature racing, car crushing, motorcycle jumps and a human cannonball.

This past weekend, the speedway simultaneously hosted the inaugural Guardians Entertainment First Responders Royale paintball tournament at the back of the property, as well as laps around both the road course and the oval track, which was managed by Motorsport 4the Masses.

MB Drift has made Rockingham its new home for the 2021 season, holding three competitive events and several open events. The upcoming Summer Vibes event on July 17 will offer free ride-alongs for anyone 18 and older.

Seat Time Racing School recently announced it was planning to return to the Rock, with an event slated for July 24.

Later on in the year, Trucks Gone Wild and ProMark Entertainment are bringing the 2021 East Coast Truck Jeep & Off-road Festival to Rockingham Oct. 7-10.
