Motorcycle Wrecks on East Broad Avenue

ROCKINGHAM - Saturday at 11:31 a.m. first responders were called in front of Bojangles where a motorcyclist had been struck by a vehicle entering the highway.  

Paramedics checked the rider for injuries and he did not need to be transported to the hospital.

Units responding : Rockingham Fire Department; First Health Richmond EMS; and Rockingham Police Department.

Fire and EMS personnel marked back in service at 11:48 a.m. and the Police Department remained on the scene investigating the accident.

CORDOVA -First responders were dispatched Saturday morning around 8:15 a.m. to the railroad crossing behind the Vondrehle plant on Zion Church Road.

Upon arrival it was discovered that a vehicle crossing the tracks had been struck.

The vehicle was traveling south on the highway when it tried to cross the tracks with the signal arms down.

RICHMOND COUNTY - On Sunday night, Richmond Emergency Communications (ECom) sent out an alert to all first responders that severe thunderstorms would be entering the county around 9:00 p.m.

Sure enough, around 9:30 p.m. the Rockingham Fire Department was dispatched to a structure collapse where a tree had fallen on a house at 206 South Grove Avenue. 

Everyone was out of the structure at the time the fire department arrived on scene.

Structure Fire in East Rockingham

EAST ROCKINGHAM - On Wednesday, August 8th at 12:31 p.m., the East Rockingham Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire at 263 Church Street.

The caller stated that she thought the fire was coming from the oven and the structure was filled with smoke.

When the fire department arrived they discovered that the oven was in fact the spot of the fire's origin.

They quickly set up the high-pressure fan and removed all smoke from the structure.

There was a minimum of damage to the residence and the structure was deemed safe to enter.

Only the owner was home at the time of the call and she exited the structure safely.

Along with the East Rockingham Fire Department, Cordova Fire Rescue also responded as a function of their automatic mutual aid agreement.

All units marked back in service at 12:55 p.m.

Vehicles Wreck on Sandhills Road

ROCKINGHAM - On Wednesday morning around 11:15, first responders were paged to Sandhills Road close to the Hamer Mill Road Intersection to a collision involving two vehicles.

Upon arrival it was discovered that one occupant required transportation to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators reported that a brown Dodge pickup truck was hit on its passenger side by a black Nissan pickup; the second truck struck a large tree.

Units responding: Cordova Fire Rescue; First Health Richmond EMS; and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident was investigated by the Highway Patrol.

A Lot of Damage on Dockery Road

ROCKINGHAM - Around 4:15 p.m. on Monday afternoon, residents on Dockery Road did not know what was about to happen.

They were hearing sounds that they knew were not normal.

Those that described the action that occurred had one thing on their minds:  find a safe place to be.

ROCKINGHAM - Emergency Communications received a call at 2:35 pm Sunday afternoon involving a motorcycle in front of the Waffle House on Highway 1 South.

Units arriving found one rider down with serious injuries.

Patient was thought to have a serious leg injury with other injuries from contact with the highway.

Authorities on the scene determined that a helicopter would be needed to transport the patient.

He was airlifted from the Richmond County Airport by Carolina Air Care to Chapel Hill.

Units responding : East Rockingham Fire Department; Cordova Fire Rescue; First Health Richmond EMS; Richmond County Sheriffs Office; Rockingham Police Department; and North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident is being investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Vehicles Collide on 74 By-Pass

ROCKINGHAM - Emergency responders were dispatched to Exit 308 around 5:35 p.m. on Thursday, July 12th.

A commercial truck and a passenger van were involved in a collision in the eastbound lane as they passed the exit.

Medical personnel checked out the occupants in both vehicles but no one needed attention.

Units responding were: Cordova Fire Rescue; First Health Richmond EMS; and North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident is being investigated by the Highway Patrol.

ROCKINGHAM - Emergency responders got the call that there was a motorcycle down on Old Cheraw Highway around 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

On arrival units found one motorcycle had wrecked after an animal had darted in front of the rider, causing him to lose control and crash the cycle.

Medical personnel determined that the patient would need to be air-lifted with multiple injuries to the head and shoulder areas.

Cordova Fire Rescue members set up an LZ (landing zone) at the Heli Pad next to Burlington Industries.

The “UNC Tarheel 2” helicopter landed and transported the patient to Charlotte.

Units responding were: Cordova Fire Rescue; First Health Richmond EMS; Richmond County Sheriff’s Office; and North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident is being investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Head-On Collision on Sandhills Road

ROCKINGHAM - Wednesday morning around 9:30 a.m. emergency responders were dispatched to a two-vehicle wreck on Sandhills Road and Isom Nichols Road.

Units arriving it was found that the vehicles had collided head-on in the curve.

There was a total of three injured in the wreck (two adults and one child).

Three patients were transported to the hospital. Two were transported by ambulance and the third was air-lifted. 

A landing zone was set up in a field adjacent to Burlington Industries with the assistance of East Rockingham Fire Department where the helicopter landed.

Units responding: Cordova Fire Rescue; East Rockingham Fire Department; First Health Richmond EMS; Richmond County Sheriff’s Office; and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident was being investigated by the Highway Patrol.
