RICHMOND COUNTY – By now, it’s clear that Winter Storm Grayson has left behind some treacherous driving conditions. As reported in a previous article, Emergency Services director Donna Wright said there were no fatalities as a result of the snow, but there were several reported accidents around the county.

HAMLET – Emergency crews were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 38 South Tuesday afternoon where it intersects with Baltimore Drive.

EAST ROCKINGHAM – Late last week, East Rockingham Fire Department battled a structure fire off of Battley Dairy Road.

HAMLET – First responders were busy in Hamlet Thursday night, as emergency crews with Hamlet Fire Rescue were dispatched at 8:10 p.m. to the intersection of Highway 74 and Highway 177 near the Hardees restaurant.

Crash at Airport and Mizpah Roads Sends One Driver to Local Hospital

EAST ROCKINGHAM – At 6:05 p.m. Thursday, local emergency crews were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Airport and Mizpah roads.

EAST ROCKINGHAM – Fire personnel was notified at 11:29 p.m. Wednesday night to 612 Airport Road at the location of Direct Pack with possible smoke and fire.

CORDOVA – Monday was a busy day for local emergency services, as crews responded to several accidents throughout the county.

ROCKINGHAM – The second of three reported motor vehicle accidents Monday occurred during the afternoon, which involved a Buick sedan and a Mountain Aire Farms tractor trailer.

Local emergency crews were dispatched to the two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 220 and Highway 74 in Rockingham.

According to a source at the scene, the Buick sedan collided with the trailer, causing it to become lodged beneath the truck. Rockingham Fire Department personnel freed the driver from the car.

FirstHealth Richmond EMS transported the driver of the sedan to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Rockingham Police department also assisted with the accident. At the time of this publication, RPD is investigating the incident.

ROCKINGHAM – In the final accident report from Monday, local agencies responded to a two-vehicle accident at 7:58 p.m. on East Broad Avenue. 

The collision was in front of Ned’s Pawn Shop and Firestone Tire in the Richmond Plaza Shopping Center.

Witnesses stated that both vehicles left the Biltmore Drive traffic light and crashed in the eastbound lane of the highway. Vehicles involved were a white GMC pickup truck and a gray Honda SUV.

The SUV was occupied by three adults and a small child; there were two adults in the pickup truck. None of those involved in either vehicle required medical attention.

Agencies responding to the scene were Rockingham Fire Department, FirstHealth Richmond EMS and Rockingham Police Department.

RPD is continuing its investigation of the accident at this time.

EAST ROCKINGHAM – On Sunday afternoon at 3:28 p.m., the East Rockingham Fire Department was dispatched to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Battley Dairy Road and Trevor Andrews Road.
