ROCKINGHAM – As hurricane season rages on and millions of people across the country have been affected, most recently along the southeast Texas coast, there is a need to assist those families and communities. And members of the First Baptist Church of Rockingham are answering the call.

EAST ROCKINGHAM – As the wrath of Hurricane Harvey settles over southeast Texas leaving thousands of people displaced and in need of supplies, Jefferson Park Free Will Baptist Church in East Rockingham hosted its annual blood drive Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Motivation With Mac: Transforming from Within

Often times, when we think of transforming something, it is something dealing with a physical change. We transform our bodies, our hair, our homes, and so on and so forth. Very seldom do we consider transforming our minds our hearts, something that we can’t necessarily see or touch; but isn’t that where true transformation begins?

Considering the economic climate we live in, having more than one job is the norm. However, something beautiful and new is taking place. No longer are people just going out and finding a second form of employment many people now are creating their own jobs. Becoming an entrepreneur is the new wave and that spirit is ever-present in our community like never before. Why work for someone else when you can create your own profit driven by your passion? Work shouldn’t feel like a chore it should feel like fulfillment, so this new series is dedicated to those who are satisfying that fulfillment and creating their own reality.

RICHMOND COUNTY – Parents and students, new and returning, ranging from kindergarten to high school, scrambled across the Richmond County to visit schools during Richmond County School’s “open house” Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

HAMLET – The Hamlet City Council set a special meeting Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. for the discussion of new playground equipment for the improvement of South Hamlet Park.

Mayor William Bayless opened the special session by expressing remorse for the neglect of South Hamlet park in lieu of renovations to two other Hamlet City parks, W.D. James and Memorial Parks.

On August 19, 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5847, declaring August 21 as National Senior Citizens Day.

Monday Motivation - Getting to Happy

It’s Monday, and it’s time to re-energize. The start of the week is always a time to set weekly goals, start something new, and reflect on the past. We all need some motivation from time to time, and sometimes it’s best when it comes from a complete stranger with a new perspective you may not have considered.

ROCKINGHAM — Hundreds of shoppers gathered at Lidl on Thursday morning to see what the new grocery store has to offer.

The parking lot of the German grocery chain was packed full of shoppers, anticipating good deals. And the line outside, wrapped around the side of the building, while the staff greeted customers and handed out reusable shopping bags. Doors opened at 8:00 a.m. following a ribbon cutting ceremony with Mayor Steve Morris.

DOBBINS HEIGHTS — This past Thursday, the town council meeting of Dobbin Heights was called to order at 7:00pm.
