ROCKINGHAM- The City of Rockingham met for their regular monthly meeting Tuesday evening May 8.  Following an invocation by Rev. Jim Nelson, Pastor of First Baptist Church, the board approved the consent agenda.

ELLERBE - The first annual Strawberry Festival is coming up this Saturday, May 12  in Ellerbe.  The event is being sponsored by the Ellerbe Downtown Merchants Association and will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  There is no admission charge for the event.

RICHMOND COUNTY-  Primary elections on non-presidential election years typically have light turnout; the 2018 primary in Richmond County proved to be no exception.

RICHMOND COUNTY- The birds are singing, the air is getting warmer and the delicious, fresh local produce is on the way.  The Farmers’s Market is open for business again.

RICHMOND COUNTY-  The primary election is upon us.  Early voting, which has been available for several weeks, will officially end this Saturday.

The last opportunities to cast your vote early will be Thursday May 3 and Friday May 4  from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and this Saturday May 5th from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Richmond County Cooperative Extension Office at 123 Caroline Street in Rockingham. 

ROCKINGHAM-  In the upcoming Democratic primary, Christian Cano is running against Dan McCready.  Both candidates are from Charlotte. 

ROCKINGHAM-  Helen Probst Mills, a first time candidate, is running for the State Senate seat currently held by Tom McInnis.  In her opening remarks she said, “I’m running because, as Wayne Goodwin said, 'We’ve had enough!'”

Early Voting Begins April 19

ROCKINGHAM-  Early voting begins today (April 19) in Richmond County.  The early voting site is located at the Richmond County Cooperative Extension Office at 123 Caroline Street in Rockingham.

ROCKINGHAM-  J.L. McCullers, with his deep, commanding voice, began his speech by saying, “It would be a disservice to use a microphone. It would hurt you all’s ears.”

ROCKINGHAM-  Ken Goodman began his speech to the local Democratic Party Convention noting that between Wayne Goodwin and his wife Melanie they held the seat Goodman currently holds for a combined 14 years.  Add to that the eight years Goodman has been in office and “there’s been a good person in that seat for 22 years, and I’m hoping to keep it that way for another term.”
