HAMLET - Richmond Community College will hold a mandatory orientation for its fall truck driver training course at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, in room 130 of the Lindsey-Petris Building on the college’s main campus in Hamlet. This orientation session is the first step for people who want to get into the training class and begin a career in the trucking industry.

ROCKINGHAM – The Richmond Observer announced this morning that it has promoted a regular contributor to the head of its newsroom.

ROCKINGHAM -- On Monday, August 21 the United States will be treated to a total eclipse of the sun, and the Leath Library in Rockingham will be hosting an event for the community to be able to safely watch the historic event.

ROCKINGHAM -- The twelfth new business to open in downtown Rockingham in the last two years held its ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday afternoon in a ceremony presented in partnership with the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce.

To help local small businesses benefit from all this online conversation, the Small Business Center of Richmond Community College will present a free seminar, “Blogging and Twitter for Business Owners,” from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Cole Auditorium.

ELLERBE -- Over 100 children and their families flocked to Ellerbe this past Saturday morning to take turns mining for precious gems at the Rankin Museum of American Heritage's annual Geology Dig.
