ELLERBE -- Over 100 children and their families flocked to Ellerbe this past Saturday morning to take turns mining for precious gems at the Rankin Museum of American Heritage's annual Geology Dig.

ROCKINGHAM -- Bold Moves Dance Company, located at 303 E Washington Street in downtown Rockingham, has announced its open house and registration event for the 2017-2018 season.

The "Open House and Registration" event for the new season will be held at the studio on Tuesday, August 8 from 5:00-8:00pm and again on Thursday, August 10 from 5:00-8:00pm.

If you are interested in learning more about Bold Moves Dance Company's award winning competitive team, Holly Littlefield, owner of Bold Moves Dance Company, is encouraging dancers to attend an interesting meeting at the studio on Wednesday, August 9 at 5:30pm.

Competitive Company auditions will be held on August 14 and 15 from 5:00-8:00pm.

HAMLET – At its Tuesday, Aug. 1 meeting, the Richmond Community College Board of Trustees approved the college’s application for multi-campus status in Laurinburg to be submitted to the State Board of Community Colleges.


HAMLET – Eleven cadets completed the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program at Richmond Community College and were presented with certificates during a ceremony on July 24 at the Cole Auditorium.

ROCKINGHAM - The Richmond County Board of Commissioners Meeting was highlighted by a retirement announcement and an address from Commissioner Ussery regarding his concerns on county water conditions in the Meadowwood and Wiregrass Road area.

HAMLET – Veronica Roberts of Hamlet is the shelter manager at New Horizons Life and Family Services, which is a domestic violence organization located in Richmond County. She is also a 2015 Richmond Community College graduate with an associate degree in Human Services Technology and two certificates in Social Gerontology and At-Risk Youth Technician.

CHARLOTTE -  Dr. Mark Harris, senior pastor at First Baptist Church in Charlotte, announced on Monday that he will run in the special primary in March 2018 for the ninth district's congressional seat in Congress. His opponent will once again be incumbent Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09), who has held the seat since 2013.

ROCKINGHAM - The annual "National Night Out" event, hosted by the the Rockingham Police Department, is set for tonight at the Cole Plaza in downtown Rockingham.

ROCKINGHAM - A Rockingham man was arrested late last week for attempting to set a house on fire during the night with five people inside.
