PEMBROKE — The Givens Performing Arts Center on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is proud to announce the 2019 Hearts for the Arts Fundraiser on Thursday, Feb. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the University Center Annex.

PEMBROKE — UNC Pembroke’s School of Business will present “The Immigration Debate” as part of its Distinguished Speaker Series.

PEMBROKE — Michael Eric Dyson, a best-selling author and Georgetown University professor, will speak at UNC Pembroke on Jan. 24.

Dyson’s visit is part of the 2018-2019 Distinguished Speaker Series and coincides with the university’s Martin Luther King (MLK) Week of Service. His talk begins at 7:30 p.m. at Givens Performing Arts Center. 

PEMBROKE — Members of the Julian T. Pierce Memorial Scholarship Initiative Committee recently presented a $16,000 contribution to UNC-Pembroke.

PEMBROKE — A $100,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation will allow the Lumber River Conservancy and its partners in the UNC Pembroke biology department to study the effects of agricultural runoff, drought, and recent hurricanes on the river’s overall health. The results will help the LRC, regulatory agencies and members of the community make decisions to protect the river and improve its water quality.

PEMBROKE— In a ceremony this week, UNC Pembroke honored its American Indian students who are degree candidates for 2018 Winter Commencement.

PEMBROKE — UNC Pembroke graduates will soon have a direct pipeline to the Public Health degree programs at East Carolina University.

Leaders from both institutions this week signed a memorandum of understanding, which will provide an easier path for UNCP graduates to matriculate to degree and certificate programs offered by ECU’s Department of Public Health.
