OBITUARY: Patrick Thomas O’Tuel

LUMBERTON — Patrick Thomas O’Tuel, 44, of Lumberton, passed away suddenly the evening of Jan. 22, 2023.

Patrick is the son of Teresa Bowen O’Tuel and the late Cecil Joe O’Tuel.

Patrick is also preceeded in death by his grandparents, Albert and Mary Bowen of McColl, South Carolina, Edwin and Lorraine Stubbs of Hamlet; and special mother-in-law, Peggy Thaggard of Lumberton.

Patrick was a dedicated and hardworking man that valued his career and academia. For over 20 years, Patrick worked in healthcare as a nurse and recently obtained his Master’s degree of Science in Nursing from Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolnia. Patrick Thomas O’Tuel, MSN-FNP, was proud to serve his community.

In his free time, Patrick attended West Lumberton Baptist Church with his loving wife Marlo Thaggard O’Tuel, to whom he was married for seven years. Patrick loved many things in life. For instance, he loved traveling to see the sights in Mount Airy and cruising the Caribbean with his wife. He also loved fishing, making coffee runs and collecting model trains. Above all, Patrick loved his family, all of whom will miss him dearly.

Patrick is survived by his mother, Teresa Bowen O’Tuel of Hamlet; loving wife, Marlo Thaggard O’Tuel of Lumberton; beloved son, Hunter O’Tuel of Rockingham; sister, Heather O’Tuel (Cary Garner) of Hamlet; brothers-in-law, David Thaggard of Lumberton and James William Thaggard of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; special aunt and uncle, Marilyn and Drake Rogers of Clio, South Carolina. Patrick also leaves behind “Fur-son” Coal, his Shih-Poo dog.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 27 in the Watson-King Funeral Home Chapel in Hamlet with Pastor Rick Foreman officiating. The Rev. Dan Blair and Apostle Eddie McLean will also be assisting. The family will receive friends for visitation between 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery in Gibson, North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Richmond Community College, 1042 W. Hamlet Ave., Hamlet, NC 28345, Patrick T. O’Tuel MSN-FNP Scholarship fund in order to honor Patrick.
