Adelaide Blalock

ROCKINGHAM — Adelaide “Sweetie” Marion Blalock crossed over into the light of Eternal Glory on Dec. 31, 2018.

She was born on Aug. 18, 1929 in Monroe, North Carolina, to Julian McCurry and Marion Odessa Crouse Powell.

In the late 1940s, she met her future husband, John Franklin Blalock Sr., at Kings Business College in Charlotte, North Carolina. Once married, they had two children (John Jr. and Julie). They lived in Rockingham for many years and were faithful members of First United Methodist Church.  John Sr. retired from the Post Office and they moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In that new home, they made many new friends and were very involved in First United Methodist Church (Myrtle Beach, S.C.). They loved their vibrant lifestyle at the beach.

Sweetie was preceded in death by John Sr. in 1991. She went on to volunteer at the church, play tennis and lead a very active lifestyle. In 2017, she returned to Rockingham to live close to her daughter.

She is survived by her son, John Jr. (Jan), and daughter, Julie Morgan (Jerry). She has five grandchildren: Jesse Blalock (Amanda and great-grandson Trent), Jenny Brouckaert (Jason), Blair Fetner Williams (Weston), Rebecca Bowdren (Brett and great-grandchildren Hadley, Parker and Briggs) and Ross Morgan (Sami Jo).
