Agnes ‘Mac’ McBride Bennett

SOUTHERN PINES — Agnes “Mac” McBride Bennett, 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020 at the Hospice House in Pinehurst. She was a longtime resident of Penick Retirement Village in Southern Pines, since 1988. 

She was a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Leola White McBride.   

She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Rockingham, until she relocated to Moore County. She was involved with many community activities and loved to decorate for Christmas and other special holidays. She had a talent for interior designing and enjoyed helping friends and families with their homes. 

She was once an avid tennis player and enjoyed participating in her bridge and poker club and Rockingham Cotillion Club before her declining health. She was quite the jokester and enjoyed telling many long and funny stories to family and friends.

Ms. Bennett attended the University of South Carolina and was in the Chi Omega Sorority along with her younger sister, Lois McBride Baker, which she delighted In.

She was preceded in death by her children, Leslie Fetner Bennett and Russell Evans Bennett III; also her siblings, brothers Floyd McBride and Bill McBride, and sisters Ruthalee Hook, Lucille Malloy, Grace Patrick, Theo Watts and Lois Baker.  

Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Eastside Cemetery with the Rev. Allison Farrah officiating. Due to COVID-19, please wear a mask and continue social distancing. 

A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful sitters from Home Care of Moore County and the many Penick staff she was so fond of. Also many thanks to the kind and caring FirstHealth Hospice staff.
