ROCKINGHAM — Barbara Richardson Smith, 78, of Rockingham, passed away Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021 during a Christmas trip to the mountains in Waynesville.
She was born Jan. 14, 1943 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Homer Lee and Ronie Cagle Richardson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Smith, in 2017; brothers, Ed, Lewis, Bernie, Buck, Larry and Hurley Richardson; and sisters, Dorothy Brown and Bessie Smith.
Mrs. Smith retired as a supervisor from the textile industry. She enjoyed many trips with family to Holden Beach and also the N.C. mountains. Barbara loved spending the time with her family and especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was everything to her. She leaves behind a lifetime of precious memories with many celebrated family traditions.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Dec. 31, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home Chapel in Hamlet with the Rev. Gary Richardson officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Co. Memorial Park. Visitation with family members and friends will be at Watson-King in Hamlet, Thursday, Dec. 30 from 5-7 p.m. and at other times her home, 163 Calvert St. in Rockingham.
Surviving are her daughters, Sherry Morgan and husband Larry of Ellerbe, Patsy White and husband Eddie of Rockingham and Wendy O’Brien of Rockingham; grandchildren, Jordan Morgan (Lauren), Jennifer Cline, Timothy Player, Whitney White Elvis (Brandon), Tara, Tyler and Taylor White, Zachary and Holeigh O’Brien (Quatey); great-grandchildren, Jullian Cline, Cameron Player, Holden and Luke Elvis, Dawson Morgan and Carson Brown; and brothers, Harry and Lee Richardson.
