Carl Canipe

ROCKINGHAM — Carlos “Carl” David Canipe Jr., 72, passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 24, 2020, at Hospice Haven following a period of declining health.

A native of Richmond County, he was the son of the late Carlos David Canipe and Kathleen Lovette Canipe. He was the husband of Joann Brady Canipe and they had been married for 28 years.

Carl was a graduate of Rockingham High School and was retired from CSX Railroad with 28 years of dedicated service. His outside activities included going to auctions to find bargains he might use or re-sell. Prior to his failing health, he was an active member of Abundant Life Church where he had served in the choir and spoke on occasions.

In addition to his beloved wife, Joann, he is survived to one son, Victor Canipe of Asheboro; one daughter, Rebecca Russell of Rockingham; two grandchildren; one brother, Ron Canipe of Memphis, Tennessee; two sisters, Brenda Long (Delano) of Rockingham and Peggie Blizard (Larry) of Dobbs Ferry, New York.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a stepson, David Ray McKay; and a brother, Jim Canipe.

A graveside service will be conducted at Richmond County Memorial Park at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, with Pastor Joe B. Wilkes Jr. and the Rev. Gerald Goins officiating.

The body will lie in state at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham from noon until 1 p.m. Friday prior to the service.
