Charles Wesley Griggs

ROCKINGHAM — Charles Wesley Griggs, 68, of Rockingham, departed this world for a far better one early on the morning of May 23, 2021, at the Hospice House of Moore County in West End.

Charles leaves behind to cherish his memory two sons, Cary (Stephanie) Griggs of Havelock, and Shaun Griggs of Rockingham; and two grandchildren, Cary “Gabriel” Griggs Jr., and Naomi Griggs, both of Havelock. Charles is also survived by two brothers, James “Bo” (Vikki) Griggs and Harold “Happy” Griggs, all of Rockingham;, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Glenda Griggs Singleton.

Charles was born in Rockingham on Oct. 5, 1952 to Alva James Griggs and Naomi Wilson Griggs.

Charles attended Rohanen High School. He joined the U.S. Army at 18 years old and was stationed in Germany. His career was in Army vehicle maintenance. After discharge, he moved to Charlotte and was involved in laying fiber-optic cable from there to Texas. Later he was involved in many high-tech construction jobs, and advanced up the ranks rapidly to supervisory positions.

Charles was a deep thinker and an avid conversationalist and storyteller who was always willing to share his wealth of knowledge on a broad range of topics, from history to social policies to family memories to pets. Charles loved animals, and leaves behind several pet dogs. When asked who he was most looking forward to seeing in Heaven, Charles answered “Chuy,” his beloved rat terrier who passed away several years ago.
