Dorothy E. Hamm McDonald

ELLERBE — Ms. Dorothy E. Hamm McDonald of Ellerbe, went home to be with her Savior Jesus, on Friday, April 30, 2021.

Ms. McDonald passed, at home, surrounded by her family, a month and a half shy of her 99th birthday. She was born to the late Samuel Edgar and Renie Boyles Hamm on June 18, 1922 in Surry County.

She was a devoted wife of 42 years to her husband, Walter E. McDonald, who passed July 30, 1987. Ms. McDonald was a homemaker and devoted Christian. She was a dedicated member of Victory Baptist Church, attending services regularly through Easter 2021.  

She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Carrie Kiser, Hester Jenkins, Opal Hudson and Rachel Myers; and brother, Howard Hamm Sr.

She is survived by her daughters, Myrtle E. McDonald and Shirley (Wayne) Richardson, both of Ellerbe; grandsons, David Richardson of Ellerbe and Samuel (Tabitha) Richardson of Durham; great-grandchildren, Addison Richardson and Jeremiah Richardson, both of Durham; and several nieces and nephews. 

A public viewing will take place on Tuesday, May 4 2021, from noon until 4 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home, 306 E. Franklin St., Rockingham. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 5 2021, from noon until 1:30 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church, 171 Clemmer Road, Rockingham. The funeral service will follow at Victory Baptist Church at 2 p.m. The Rev. Wayne Richardson and the Rev. Russell Edwards will officiate. The burial will follow the service at Ellerbe Cemetery on Millstone Road, Ellerbe.
