Douglas Spencer Huntley

LAURINBURG — Douglas Spencer Huntley, 73, a longtime Laurinburg resident, completed his earthly journey all too soon on Monday, July 12, 2021 due to injuries received in an automobile accident.

A service celebrating Doug’s life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Laurinburg. Due to the surge in COVID-19, face coverings are requested.

The family will greet friends following the service. Doug has been laid to rest, with military honors, near his parents in the Huntley Family Cemetery in Rutherfordton.

Doug was a native of Rutherford County, a son of the late Leslie Howard and Lyattle Rollins Huntley.

He graduated RS Central High School, Class of 1966, and with honors from Cecil’s Business College and Fayetteville Technical Community College. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Doug’s first career was in banking, having worked with numerous banks across the state and retired from Carter Bank and Trust.

Following his retirement, he set out on his lifetime dream and his second career as a funeral director. Doug’s strong commitment to helping others in their time of grief, his calming personality and his attention to detail helped him excel in the profession. He served as manager of Reavis Funeral Home of Statesville from 2015 until 2019. In 2019, he returned to the Sandhills and joined the staff of Carter Funeral Home, where he was working at the time of his death.

He was also a proud member of Lions International, most recently in the Rockingham Lions Club. Family was of great importance to Doug. He loved the family vacations every year as well as getting together with extended family at the reunions.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 38 years, Lynda Galloway Huntley; two children, Winston Huntley and Amanda Huntley; grandson, Brannon Huntley; a sister, Doris H. Luckadoo, and brother, Steve K. Huntley (Sandra); and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
