Ernest McMillan

Ernest McMillan was born March 10, 1947 to the late James and Lucy Mae Ratliff McMillan. Early Friday morning, April 10, 2021, God called him home. He quietly departed this life and entered into eternal rest at the Haven, 8:40 a.m.

He was the oldest of five children. Many obstacles came his way. He either went around, over or through them. But he never let them stop him from becoming the man we all knew and loved.

He attended Scotland County Schools and graduated from Carver High with the Class of 1966. Ernest took several courses through Richmond Community College as well.  Ernest then joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany.  After completing his military duty, Ernest was employed with Camp Morrison Youth Detention Center and later with Perdue Farms as a supervisor.

He knew he had the potential to do more and took the state board later becoming a licensed insurance agent for Momentum Life until he retired.

Ernest joined Pemberton Temple COGIC and at the altar there, he confessed his sins and received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He said the Lord told him to live Holy and from that day forward he strived to do just that. As his sickness progressed, his wife (Mary) said he called her to his bedside just before his 74th birthday and began to pray to his and our heavenly father saying, “Lord, forgive me and if I’ve hurt anyone within these 73 years, let them forgive me also. For I know in 73 years, I have done something wrong and hurt someone, forgive me Lord and take care of my family. In Jesus’ name Amen.”

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brent Patrick McMillan (B.J.).

He leaves to cherish his many memories: his forever loving wife, Mary Ann Elizabeth McMillan, of the home; two sisters Theresa (Clyde) Bass of Hamlet, Lillie Johnson of Laurel Hill; two brothers, James (Nadine) McMillan of Laurel Hill, John McMillan of Laurinburg; daughters, Eureka McMillan of Bennettsville, South Carolina, Erike (Sterling) Williams of Wallace, South Carolina, Cassandra (Bernard)Brown of Rockingham, and Tangala McMillan of Durham; sons, Ernest Tyrone McMillan of Bennettsville, South Carolina, Eric Tyler (Patria) McMillan of Hamlet, Preston (Tabatha) Dawkins, of Rockingham, James (Thasha) Durham; two God-given children, Orrick (Shakeanma) McDougald of Hamlet; grandchildren, Jide’ Reddick, Jawan Dawkins, Destiney McMillan, Brittany McMillan, Brent McMillan, Corey Crenshaw, Michael Wilson Jr., Mikka Wilson, Talik McMillan, Radyance (White) McMillan, Thomas Dawkins, Maurice Dawkins, Chantelle Nelson, Malek Rush, and Sierra Stroman; two God-sent grandchildren, Neghagee Patterson and Adrian Lily; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of beloved, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.
