Esther McNair

ROCKINGHAM — Esther Gibson McNair, 85, of Rockingham, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham.

Mrs. McNair was born May 26, 1933 in Scotland County, a daughter of the late Garland Lindsey and Rena Hester Gibson. On April 17, 1949 she married Clarence Eugene McNair. She embraced being the wife of a Baptist minister and was very active in the churches they pastored. Following retirement, they became members of Beverly Hills Baptist Church, where she continued to be very active in the church. She worked for many years for the City of Rockingham, retiring as tax collector. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Player, and her brothers Robert Gibson and Garland Gibson Jr. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving are her husband of 69 years, the Rev. Eugene McNair; children, Philip McNair (Barbara) of Rockingham, Gary McNair (Marsha) of Louisburg and Mitchell McNair (Becky) of Lexington, South Carolina; grandchildren, Ryan McNair (Ania), Jan Scholl (Bill), Trey McNair (Erin), Bethany White (Daniel), Rachel McNair and Stephen McNair; great-grandchildren, Cameron Scholl, Conner Scholl, Harper White, Kennedy White, Nora McNair and Melody McNair; sister, Elizabeth Smith of Rockingham; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Beverly Hills Baptist Church with the Revs. Ed Pilarcyzk, Mickey Briles and Kevin Thompson officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum of Richmond County Memorial Park.

The family will see friends from 12–1:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Family Life Center of Beverly Hills Baptist Church and at other times at the home.
