Evelyn Marks

ROCKINGHAM — Evelyn Mae Marks, 95, of Rockingham, completed her earthly journey on Thursday, June 18, 2020.

Ms. Marks was born Feb. 4, 1925 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin “Frank” and Mary Abagail “Miss Mamie” McKay Marks.

Evelyn graduated from Rockingham High School, where she was valedictorian of her class, and then began her 44-year career with the Richmond County Agriculture Extension Office. She was a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Rockingham where for over 75 years she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.

Evelyn had a great love for family, sewing, birds and gardening, especially rhododendrons and her roses. Her homemade greeting cards and “as-seen-on-TV” gifts will be missed by her family and close friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ellis and Leroy Marks; and her sister, Ruth Marks Jenkins.
