Forrest Glenn McBryde Jr.

ELLERBE — Forrest Glenn McBryde Jr., 91, of Ellerbe, passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2020 peacefully at his home.

Mr. McBryde was born April 23, 1929 in Lee County, a son of the late Forrest Glenn and Annie Stone McBryde.

He had served his country in the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 25 years of service. Following his retirement from the U.S. Air Force, he returned to North Carolina where he was employed with Cameron Morrison as a guard and an instructor. Later he worked with Ellerbe Springs Inn and Restaurant and with Walmart in the sporting goods department in Southern Pines and Rockingham. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Rockingham, where he sang in the choir, was a deacon and an elder.

He was a member of Rockingham Masonic Lodge 495, A.F. & A.M., where he had served three terms as master, was a past master while in Germany, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, the Oasis Temple of the Shrine and past president of the Pee Dee Shrine Club.

He and his wife enjoyed square dancing and he served as president of the Karamursel Turkey Trotters. He also enjoyed playing golf.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Everett “Roy” McBryde and Myron “Buddy” McBryde; and sisters, Dorothy Cottingham and JoAnn Morgan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Betty Jarrell McBryde; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ellerbe Cemetery with the Rev. Dwight Williams officiating. Face coverings are required and please remember to practice social distancing.

Mr. McBryde will lie in state from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.
