Gary Jerome Peele Sr.

ROCKINGHAM — Gary Jerome Peele Sr. was born July 19, 1934 in Marlboro County, South Carolina, a son of William and Hazeleen Peele. He was devoted husband to his wife Patricia Peele for 67 years. He was truly cherished by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After a life of service to Christ and his family, Gary entered into his eternal rest on Dec. 23, 2021 at the age of 87.

Gary began his career as a meat cutter for ZV Pate in Gibson and was the owner of Gary’s Country Shop in Hamlet, North Carolina, for many years. Gary was a well-loved and respected member of the community. He enjoyed a good NASCAR race, watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports, and working in his garden from which he shared the produce with family and friends. Gary worked hard; he loved God, his family, and his church families — First Baptist Church Hamlet, Oak Ridge Baptist, Calvary Baptist and Gibson Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Pinecrest Cemetery in Gibson with the Rev. Eric Hodge and Dr. Allison Farrah officiating.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Meredith Hodge and Patrick Peele; his brother, William E. Peele Jr., and his sister, Phyllis Cox.
