Gerald Donald Humphries

McCOLL, S.C. — Gerald Donald “Don“ Humphries of McColl, South Carolina, passed away at the age of 66 on Feb. 18, 2022.   

Born Aug. 26, 1955 in Darlington, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Willard Woodrow Humphries and Myrtle Elizabeth O’Neal Humphries. 

His working career was in textiles, retiring from Burlington Industries after many years of service. He enjoyed attending Piney Plains Freewill Baptist Church. Don was a handy man who enjoyed working on everything from clocks to making guitars. He and Joann enjoyed their time at the lake and being Twin Harbor members. He also enjoyed his time fishing, working in the yard and mowing grass. Above all, Don’s greatest joy was sharing time with his family, especially the grandchildren.  He will truly be missed as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Humphries; brother, Wayne Humphries, and sister, Margie Darnell.

Don is survived by his wife, Joann Humphries of their home in McColl, South Carolina; children, Wayne Humphries (Jessica Goins) of Rockingham, Robert Humphries (Abigail) of Bennettsville, South Carolina, Chad Quick (Julia) of Bennettsville, South Carolina, Andy Quick (Connie) of Hamlet; brother, James Humphries of Tennessee; sister, Doris McInville of Darlington, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Ann Brigman of Rockingham; his nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of loving friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022 at the Piney Plains Freewill Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Sampson Grooms. Burial will follow in the Ghio Church of God of Prophecy Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday evening, Feb. 21 at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
