HAMLET — Gertrude Kirkley Hicks, 90, of Hamlet, passed away, Monday, Sept. 28, 2020, at Hospice Haven.
She was born in Richmond County, Jan. 9, 1930, daughter of Herbert Lee Kirkley and Annie Jewel Lyde Kirkley.
Mrs. Hicks was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Hamlet. She lived by the Golden Rule and was a very caring person. She was a true example of selfless and unconditional love; Proverbs 31:10: Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Blue; and a son, Buddy Hicks Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Ellis Berdette Hicks Sr. “Buddy” of the home; sons, Steve Hicks (Sandra) of Rockingham and Allan Hicks of Rockingham; brothers, Herbert Kirkley, Vide Kirkley, Clyde Kirkley and Jimmy Kirkley all of Hamlet; sister, Jewell Cooper of Charlotte; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will be having a private graveside service, masks required and social distancing appreciated. Burial will follow at Richmond Memorial Park.
