ROCKINGHAM — On Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, at the age of 90, Herman DeBerry, of Rockingham, completed his earthly journey surrounded by his loving family. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends.
Herman was born Aug. 29, 1929 in Richmond County, a son of the late Don and Sweetie Williams DeBerry. He had worked in textiles, owned and operated his own business and loved to be outside on his farm. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Liles DeBerry and several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Andrews Stewart DeBerry; children, Faye Melton (Wayne), Herman “Buck” DeBerry Jr. (Mary), Tommy DeBerry (Jill), Annette Richardson (Jerry), Roger DeBerry (Amy) and Dana Williams (Jimmy); grandchildren, Chris Melton, David Melton, Joan DeBerry, Dakota Wood, Tucker DeBerry, Stephanie Leviner, Patty Fields, Jennifer McKay, Colt DeBerry, Ciara DeBerry, Stetson DeBerry and Holly Hoopaugh; 10 great-grandchildren; six stepchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne “Butch” Parks and the Rev. Travis Wilkerson officiating. Following the service at the church, he will be laid to rest beside Edna in Richmond Memorial Park.
The family will see friends from 3–5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and at other times at the home.
