Howard Lee Elmore

ROCKINGHAM — Howard Lee Elmore, 86, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, March 18, 2022 at this residence, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Nov. 10, 1935, in Richmond County, son of the late James Elmore and Alice Kelly Elmore.

Mr. Elmore worked many years in textiles. He was greatly skilled in textiles and working on the machinery. After retirement, he worked over 20 years with W&W Auto Sales in Rockingham. He enjoyed working with the car business and was a dependable asset to them. 

He was a wonderful man and loved people, and people loved him. He enjoyed his coffee buddies in the mornings at Bojangles, his lunch at Subway, and his Walmart meetings. His most proud accomplishment was his family. He loved them dearly and they loved him. He and his wife, Betty, enjoyed their animals, especially their dogs. Classic Western movies were one of his favorite pastimes.  

Mr. Elmore was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles Daniel Webb; brothers, Walter, James and Bernie Elmore; and sisters, Annie Mae Richardson, Lillian Jones and Flora Batton.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Brigman Elmore, of the home; daughters, Toni Fletcher (Bobby) of Louisburg and Elaine Gaskins (Jeff) of Tabor City; sons, Tommy Elmore (Amy) of Easley, South Carolina, Kenneth Jeffery Webb (Toni) of Rockingham and Frank William Saillor (Samantha) of Rockingham; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 21, 2022 from 11 a.m.-noon at East Rockingham Free Will Baptist Church.

The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at the church, at noon, with the Rev. Johnny Johnson and the Rev. Bobby Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Memorial Park.
