ROCKINGHAM — Hurley Eugene “Mickey” Perkins Sr., 78, of Rockingham, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
He was born March 12, 1943 in Richmond County, a son of the late James M. and Cecilia Caulder.
Mr. Perkins retired from Fruit of the Loom where he was the third shift supervisor in the dye house. Once Fruit of the Loom closed, Mr. Perkins attended Sandhills Community College where he obtained an Associate Degree in Automotive Technology. He then used his education and great love of cars to begin his career at Dieffenbach GM Superstore where he retired over 20 years later. He continued to offer his expertise to help others with car issues up until two days before he left this world.
He was an avid hunter all of his life. Some of the best times of his life were hunting with his sons and friends.
Mr. Perkins was a longtime Christian and a devoted member of Grace Fellowship Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church on Midway Road in Rockingham with the Rev. Roger Webster and the Rev. Adam Cooke officiating. Burial will follow at Northam Cemetery Extension.
Surviving are his sister, Ms. Vickie Vaughan of Claremont; his children, Hurley Gene Perkins Jr. (Shannon), Beth Tyler (Wayne) and Mickeal (Dana). He is also survived by nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday from noon-1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church and at 681 Battley Dairy Road, Rockingham at other times.
