OBITUARY: Addison Grover Player Jr.

Addison Grover Player Jr., 75, of Hamlet, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

He was born May 31, 1948, in Richmond County, son of the late Addison Grover Player Sr. and Ramona Reynolds Player Skipper.

Mr. Player proudly served in the United States Army, retiring as a master sergeant after 20 years of service. He also worked with Quality Oil Company after his service in the military.

Mr. Player was a family man and dearly loved his wife, children and grandchildren. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye and he lovingly would say to them, “Papa loves, Papa loves.” He would attend their ballgames and could be the loudest voice cheering them on. Mr. Player also enjoyed the beach. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Addison James Player II.

Mr. Player is survived by his wife of more than 54 years, Carolyn Miller Player of the home; children, Kimberly Player Emery (Robert) of Rockingham and Addison James Player (Christinna) of Concord; grandchildren, Logan Emery, Jacob Emery and Alexander Player; sister, Doris Thorneloe (Keith) of Weaverville; stepmother, Dorothy Lunceford Player of Rockingham; stepsister, Kathy Bryant of Rockingham; step-grandchildren, Robert Williams and Ashlin Bensley (Bobby); great-grandchild, Grayson Bensley; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Richmond County Memorial Park with Pastor Marvin Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. The AMVETS will provide full military honors for Mr. Player.
