ROCKINGHAM — James Wilson Hancock, 92, of Rockingham, completed his earthly journey on Monday, June 8, 2020.
Mr. Hancock was born Aug. 7, 1927 in Forsyth County, one of 8 children of Joe Milton and Stella Poplin Hancock.
He had served his country in the U.S. Army and was a longtime, very active member of Cordova United Methodist Church. He had worked in textiles, retired from both Clark Equipment and Laurel Hill Paper Company and also was a farmer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Hancock; and siblings, Harry Hancock, Lucille Redmond, Margaret Parsons and Mauyer Hancock.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 66 years, Jewell Terry Hancock; children, Jimmy Hancock (Teresa), Roger Hancock (Lannie) and Allen Hancock (Leeanna); grandchildren, Jeremy Hancock, Jamie Hancock, Eva Odom-Galler, Bryan Hancock and Shelly Steele; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Sue Dray, Ella Mae Snipes and Joann Mercer.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the funeral service will be held privately in the Mausoleum of Richmond County Memorial Park.
