James Kenneth Shipley

PINEBLUFF — James Kenneth “Ken” Shipley, 63, of Pinebluff, went home to be with his Lord, Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst. He was surrounded by his loving wife and two daughters as he entered into his eternal home in heaven.

He was born Jan. 1, 1958, in Rockingham, son of James Alfred Shipley and Ressie Faye Williams.

Ken pastored in the Church of God of Prophecy for more than 15 years, in his earlier years. He was most recently an ordained minister with King’s Gate Church in Hamlet. He was a strong man of faith and trained his family in the ways of the Lord. He took great pride in his education, having obtained an engineering degree at the Georgia Institute of Technology as well as being a graduate of Tomlinson College in Cleveland, Tennessee. He was currently employed as a sales engineer with Weinig-Holz-Her U.S., Inc. of Mooresville.

Ken was known by many names, affectionately by “Hoss,” Pastor Ken and Daddy to his two daughters whom he loved beyond words. Brooke he called “Sissy” and Holly was his mirror-reflection. Anyone that knew him knew he was a family man — his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He personified class and style with his love of jewelry, shoes, hats, clothes and cologne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and maternal grandparents, Jake and Odessa Williams.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Donna Cobb Shipley, of the home; daughters, Brooke Walters (Daniel) of Monroe and Holly Toler (Jeff) of Goldsboro; grandchildren, J.C. Toler (MacKenzie), Chelsea Toler, Cole Patterson, Connor Patterson, Laettner Toler, Emmalynn Walters, Addyson Walters, and Jaymeson Walters; brothers, Kevin Grooms and Keith Grooms, both of Charlotte; sister, Kelly Luce of Louisiana; aunts, Hollie Mae Watts of Rockingham and Opal Gobble (Don) of Salisbury.

Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 3, 2021 at King’s Gate Church, Hamlet, from 6-8 p.m.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at King’s Gate Church with Apostle Eddie McLean, Pastor Johnny Boy McDaniel, Pastor Michael Nelson, Pastor Jeff Toler, and Bishop Steve Gilmer officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Memorial Park Cemetery.

Face coverings and social distancing will be in place during all services.

Harrington Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the Shipley family.
