Janie Belle Campbell

ROCKINGHAM — Janie Belle Campbell, of Rockingham, peacefully passed away July 7, 2021 — on her 96th birthday — surrounded by loving family.

She left this world in the home she was born in on July 7, 1925. She was proud to have lived is this home her entire life.

She was the youngest daughter of Andrew Elias Campbell and Oakley Yates Campbell.

Janie Belle graduated from the Rockingham High School Class of 1943. She retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture with 38 years of service. She served her country in World War II by working in a Army munitions factory in Georgia.

She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist, where she also served as their secretary for over 30 years.

In her younger years, she traveled the world with her special cousin, Hazel Yates.

She had many lifelong friends and made a new friend with each person she met.

She was the center of the Campbell family, she was our home.

She was preceded in death by sisters Ella Mae Richardson and Oakley Yates Brewster; brothers Daniel Elias Campbell, Grady Franklin Campbell and Glenn Stanfield Campbell.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, July 11, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Ernest Watts officiating. Burial will follow at Eastside Cemetery.

She was survived by host of nieces and nephews; and her cat, Kate.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
