John David King

ROCKINGHAM — John David “J.D.” King, 91, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, March 11, 2022 at PruittHealth of Rockingham.

He was born Nov. 1, 1930 in Richmond County, a son of the late Franklin Dave and Della Young King. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois K. King; sisters, Virginia Smith, Ivory Currie, Anna Keeter, Verbedell Hudson and Clatis Thomas; and brothers, Curtis King, Charlie King, Robert King and Delma Ray King.

Mr. King was a farmer and logger most all his life. He fed his family organic before anyone knew what organic was. He loved raising and growing everything that was brought to the table to feed his family which included his homemade sausage. Loving to fish was in his blood and was passed down many generations. On his off time he spent hunting with his family and friends. His greatest love of all was the love he had for his family.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Butler and the Rev. Doug Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Lake United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church and at other times at the home of his daughter Vikki Griggs, 450 Wiregrass Road, Rockingham.

Surviving, his children, Vikki King Griggs and husband Bo, Delma King and wife Julie and Anthony King and wife Betty all of Rockingham; grandchildren, Jamie Griggs, Tina K. Sugg and husband Wayne, D.J. King and wife Kelly, Morgan Scott and husband Drew, Maggi King, Maridith Swails and husband Justin, and Josh Johnson and wife Megan; and great grandchildren, Jade Griggs, Savannah Rodrick and husband Kyle, Tripp Griggs, Kinley Andrews, Porter Sugg, Peyton Sugg, Macie King, Lexie King, Kingsley Scott, Caroline Scott, Maverick Swails, Aiden Swails, Dallas Johnson and Dalton Johnson; brother, Stewart “Dude” King, and sister, Ida Tunstall. 

Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 2063 Grassy Island Road. Ellerbe, NC 28338.
