HAMLET — John Wesley McDonald ,of Hamlet, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022 at the age of 81.
John was born in Hamlet on Jan, 29, 1940 to the late Willie and Sallie Lee McDonald.
Growing up in Richmond County, John enjoyed spending time in the outdoors hunting and fishing. Following high school, he worked as a carpenter until he was drafted to the U.S. Army. Following his time in the service, he began working for JP Stevens where he was the lead machinist. He worked for JP Stevens for nearly 30 years before the plant closed. John had a big heart and was a loving family man.
Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, W.C. McDonald, and his sister, Hattie McDonald Bates.
He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Jerry McDonald; his daughters, Frances Talbert and Anne Hildreth and her husband, Eddie; his son, Fred McDonald; his sisters, Darlene McDonald, Brenda Clifton and Linda Overton; his brothers, James McDonald and Charlie McDonald; his grandchildren, Dustin, Tristan, Miranda, Kristen, Laura and Nick; and three great-grandchildren, Hayley, Jason and Leah.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7, 2021 at Mount Calvary/Rock of Ages Church, 464 County Home Road, Rockingham. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
At the family’s request, a face mask will be required for the service.

Care of the family is entrusted to Crumpler Funeral Home-Aberdeen.
