Kay Smith Wilson

ROCKINGHAM — Mrs. Kay Smith Wilson, 79, of Rockingham, departed to her heavenly home on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Hospice Haven, surrounded by family.

She was born July 14, 1942 in Montgomery County, daughter of the late Grady and Frances Smith.

Kay was a devoted and loving wife to her husband, Bill Wilson of the home. She was a wonderful mother to her daughters, Kim Baldwin (Timmy) of Hamlet and Teri Brigman (Moby), and son, Lance Wilson (Brook), all of Rockingham. She loved her grandchildren, Kristen Jones (Jay), Nicole Deaver (Brent), Jessica Brigman (Cody), Nick Brigman (Cortney), Cole Wilson, and Caleb Wilson. She adored her great-grandchildren, Kaylee Jones, Austin and Braxton Deaver, and her namesake, Caroline Kay Brigman. She was Grandma Kay to all the grands and great-grands, except Braxton, for whom she was KayKay. She was a loving sister to her siblings, Grady Smith (Barbara), Daphne Sellers, Pally Widener, and Danny Smith. She has many other family members and friends who will greatly miss her.

Kay was a gentle and kind woman who was always concerned for others. She loved the Lord and was a woman of great faith. She wasn’t much for crowds or traveling, but enjoyed hearing of everyone’s activities and adventures up until her illness when quietness became her refuge. She loved playing cards with her family and was very good at it. How she loved to win and how her family loved to hear her laughter. She was always a joy to be around and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her!

The family will be abiding by Kay’s wishes for a private family burial service.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Hospice Haven for their care, love, and concern for her and her family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Richmond County Hospice Haven, 1119 U.S. Highway 1 N., Rockingham, NC  28379.
