Leon Radford

Robert “Leon” Radford, 72, passed away at his home Saturday, May 11, 2019, surrounded by his loving family while under the care of Hospice. He was born in Scotland County on April 5, 1947, a son of the late Robert and Beaulah Sweat Radford. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Radford.

Leon served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He was a supervisor with Richmond Yarns for 39 years. Until his health failed, he attended the Place of Grace Campus in Rockingham. He dearly loved and was devoted to his family. He had a great sense of humor and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Braves. He was also a talented artist, drawing and painting pictures.

His memory will be cherished by his beloved wife of 52 years, Janet Hopkins Radford; three children, Robbie Radford (Diane) of Rockingham, Gail Buck (Sam) and Steve Radford, both of Ellerbe; five grandchildren, Erica Campbell (Jon), Casey Dawkins, Samantha Buck, Brittany Buck and Nate Dawkins; one brother, Wayne Radford (Susan) of Maxton; two sisters, Shirld Farris of Laurel Hill and Vivian Cooper of Laurinburg; plus a host of friends.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at the Place of Grace Campus, 252 School St., Rockingham, officiated by the Rev. Gary Richardson and Jon Campbell. The family will receive friends immediately prior to the service from 2 until 2:45 p.m. and at other times at the home. Interment will be in the Ellerbe Cemetery with military honors.
