Marshall Clay Fowler Jr.

HAMLET — Marshall Clay Fowler Jr., 94, of Hamlet, went home to live with Jesus on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Richmond Co. Hospice Haven.

He was born Oct. 10, 1926 in Hamlet, the son of the late Marshall Clay Fowler Sr. and Vena Mae Smith Fowler.

Marshall graduated from Hamlet High School in 1944 and joined the U..S Navy in August 1944. He served as an electrician aboard the ARL 19 Patroclus (a landing ship tank converted to an auxiliary repair lighter). He was present at the signing of the peace treaty with Japan on Sept. 2, 1945. He was honorably discharged in July 1946; he was in the inactive reserves for four years. He attended N.C. State College under the G.I. Bill. He loved God, country and family. His humble and kind spirit will always be remembered by those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Lois Fowler Lehon.

A graveside service will be held Monday, April 26, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Richmond Co. Memorial Park with Pastor Dan Blair and the Rev. Adolph Smith officiating. Due to COVID-19, please wear a face mask and continue social distancing.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha Keziah Fowler; four nephews Paul Lehon, Harold Lehon, John Lehon and Tom Lehon; sister-in-law, Elizabeth K. Briggs; Brothers-in-law Jacob and Ray Keziah; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
