HAMLET — Mrs. Mary Lou Rogers Swanson, 84, of Hamlet, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Richmond Pines, Hamlet.
She was born July 20, 1935, in Hickory, daughter of Ernest Rogers and Bertha Huffman Rogers.
Mrs. Swanson was a homemaker and a member of Nebo Wesleyan Church. She loved cooking and was a master at baking fruit cakes. She also enjoyed listening to gospel music and used to sing with her husband as he played the guitar.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 7 at Nebo Wesleyan Church from 1-2 p.m. and the funeral will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Collins and the Rev. Johnny Stogner officiating.
Burial will follow in the Nebo Wesleyan Church Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, the Rev. Wayne Carroll Swanson.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Bowler of Rockingham; son, David Swanson (Marlene) of Rockingham; sister, Phyllis Oakley of Lincolnton; three grandchildren, the Rev. Johnny Stogner (Rachel) of Hamlet, Tara DeWeese (Keith) of Apex and Jeffrey Stogner (Ashley) of Rockingham; great-grandchildren, Nicole, Erika, Jackson, Anna, Kyle, Michelle and Jake; and two-step-great grandchildren, Hannah and Leah.
