Mary ‘Mickey’ Milham

Mary “Mickey” Milham, 87, of Hamlet, North Carolina, was born Aug. 15, 1934. She died peacefully on Dec. 17, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Nanny, as she was affectionately known, was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Doc” Milham Jr., to whom she was happily married for 42 years. She is also preceded in death by her parents, the late John Franklin and Essie Greene Brigman; her brothers, Howard Brigman, Richard “Dinky” Brigman, Robert “Bob” Brigman, and brother-in-law, William “Bill” Goodman along with her sister-in-law Mary Brigman.

Mickey was employed with Hamlet Hospital in medical records for many years. Her favorite hobbies included cooking and tending to grand and great-grandchildren. Mickey was a wonderful caretaker and spent countless hours caring for family members and friends, especially children. She was a longtime member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church and loved her church family dearly.

Surviving are her daughter, Kathy M. Shelley and husband Greg; grandson, Ricky Shelley and wife Catherine; and granddaughter, Katy Haywood and husband Wyatt. Mickey’s heart was her four great-grandchildren, Ella and Rhett Shelley, and Easton and Ally Haywood. Also surviving are Mickey’s sister, Pat Goodman, and brother John “Toady” Brigman; sisters-in-law Golda Brigman, Martha Brigman and Geraldine Brigman; and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, along with cousins and extended family members.

The service was held at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Hamlet on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. with a burial at Richmond County Memorial Park.
