He was a member of Sweet Haven Church in Rockingham where he enjoyed fellowship with many friends. He loved his family and thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories with them over a good meal. He always had a love of spending time around water. He enjoyed restoring old boats, playing golf, and riding tractors. He loved being in nature and could find joy and amazement in the small things.

In his later years, his favorite pastime, by far, was spending time with his three grandsons who were his pride and joy. “Paw-paw” absolutely loved to tell them stories of his life and build various contraptions for them to enjoy. He could take anything, whether it be an old rope or a discarded piece of wood and create something they would enjoy playing on for hours.

Visitation will be held at Sweet Haven Church from 12:30-1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021. A celebration of life will immediately follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. Kane McKenzie, his beloved son, will officiate the service.

Carter Funeral Home of Rockingham is assisting the McKenzie family.
